Supporting young artists in Koganecho, Yokohama's art hub
Underpass Studio Site-A Gallery

When I'm looking at art works, I periodically hear the sound of trains running, and it's kind of exciting and interesting. This place, located between Keikyu Koganecho Station and Hinodecho Station, is known for its ``architecture that takes advantage of the underpass.''The name is exactly ``Site-A Gallery,'' an underpass studio. It opened at the same time as Koganecho Bazaar in 2011. This is a contemporary art gallery run by the NPO Koganecho Area Management Center, which invites and introduces young artists who will be active in the future, regardless of genre.

This is the entrance. On the opposite side is the main exhibition room (venue 1).

At the time of the interview, the ``Nokisaki Art Fair ``8 Day Art Fair'', an art and food event held on the second Sunday of every month, was in progress! There was a variety of contemporary art works by young artists lined up, and after we finished our interview, we reserved the space for our exclusive use and took a close look at it.

I heard that there are some restrictions on this gallery because it is located under an elevated railway track with trains running above it. Have a look at this.

Artworks cannot be directly displayed on bare concrete pillars. The unique feature of this work is that it creates a gap of several centimeters between the work and the wall. It's certainly a space with pillars. I need to have good support! While appreciating the works, it is also interesting to pay attention to such aspects and take a peek.

Now, let's go to the other exhibition room (venue 2).

Pass through here...

This space is much smaller than the main exhibition room, but the appeal is that you can display your works as if it were a solo exhibition. You can strongly express the unique sense of the world that the artist envisions.

In front of this exhibition room, there is a goods sales corner similar to a museum shop, and there are also flyers for art events being held in Yokohama. Depending on the exhibition, it is also possible to use this space for exhibitions.

A stylish gallery that continues to transmit art with fresh sensibilities in Koganecho, Yokohama's new art hub. There are public art and artists' studios nearby, so why not stop by while enjoying a walk?
