The Yokohama Grand InterContinental Hotel is a symbol of Yokohama, with the appearance of a sail on a yacht. I went to the wine bar "WINE BAR 31st" where I always wanted to take a peek when I heard that it opened in July 2016 on the top floor (31st floor).
When you open the door, the city of Minatomirai, Yokohama will open in front of you and welcome you. The space using the lounge with a good view is large enough to be seen by the customers. The seats are spacious and you can enjoy the scenery from the large windows. The tension before entering is mysteriously soft and you can relax.
There is also a large sofa seat that can be used with several friends and a chair seat in a casual atmosphere.
Such a luxurious seat♡ It surely becomes a "special seat" from the magic hour in the evening to the night, so it may be recommended to go early when using it on dates.
The first wine bar in this series. This time, we asked Mr. Ryosuke Uema, who has been a sommelier for 7 years, while having a "Kiel Royale", which is a cassis liqueur divided by champagne.
It's a personal story, but I love Schwaschwa's bubbles! Every time I ordered champagne or sparkling wine, I had a toast with many trendy words such as "Because I can be as happy as the number of bubbles!" (laughs) .. That's why I asked for Kiel Royale this time, but since I can taste it in such a luxurious space of the hotel, the happiness that comes will be doubled!
I went back and asked Mr. Uema about what kind of use this wine bar should have. also When you hear the wine bar on the top floor of the hotel, everyone feels that the threshold is high.
"We would like to provide such a place where people who visit Minatomirai for sightseeing, dates, shopping, etc. who work in Minatomirai can enjoy wine with ease," he said. That feeling is reflected in the price, and even in this luxurious space of the hotel, you can get a glass of wine (white / red) from JPY 1,000 (tax and service charge included)!! There are wines with prices higher than that, but since it is a wine that Sommelier has confidently selected, it is OK to start from a casual one!

If you give us your favorite tips in a conversation with the customer, we will recommend the wine,” says Uema. It seems that he was originally a sommelier at the restaurant, ``There is a dogma that white is for fish dishes and red for meat dishes, but for example, the customer gave a theme such as ``Is there red wine that goes well with fish dishes?'' It's a type that burns when you get it (laughs)'', so let's clearly tell your tastes and requests and let the sommelier's arm leave it to you!

Next was a glass of white wine. (The interview date was mid-October. Even though it was open due to the weather, it was still bright outside, but I'm really drinking it!) Laughing I usually get cold white wine, but it's said to be cold. It is said that the best temperature is 7-8℃. It means that if it is cooled further, the taste and aroma will be lost. I thought it would be better to cool it down, but from now on, I thought about temperature when drinking at home. “I think the sommelier is a service person. Anyway, I want customers to enjoy the wine at this restaurant and be satisfied. I think flexible customer service is important for that purpose. The temperature control of wine is the sommelier's arm. However, there are some customers who request "I want you to chill" the wine that is usually served without chilling.Of course, I will try to respond at that time. However, the wine that you bought is yours... so it's best if you can taste it freely."
“We would like even beginners to come casually,” says Uema. "I would like to have a sommelier if you can compare the various drinks at this wine bar and touch the charm of the wine." Besides wine, brandy and French pasture liqueur "Pastis" are also available, You can also enjoy food such as cheese, nuts, patted campagne, and salami along with sake. Another appealing feature is that you can order an original appetizer made by the chef of the Chinese restaurant "Karuyu" across the elevator hall.
It's a good idea to visit the meeting or go home after work, but you can stop by before and after eating at Minatomirai and enjoy the wine as an aperitif or a post-dinner drink! Thank you for your support and it was a treat.
