Today I went to the Kanagawa Museum of Modern Literature for the first time.
Located within walking distance from Minato-no-Mieruoka Park in Yamate, Yokohama, it is a very beautiful and relaxing place. The green that can be seen from the window was also in full bloom with healing power.
The purpose of my visit this time was the Shuji Terayama exhibition, which is being held from September 29th to November 25th. I was guided by the staff of the exhibition section.
The exhibition room is dimly lit to match the atmosphere of Shuji Terayama. Letters drawn on stones are placed on the floor as objects, and cloth with photographs printed on it hangs from the ceiling. This is an exhibition where you can truly feel “Terayama Shuji”.
While looking at the exhibits, I was surprised to learn that from a young age he was very active and lively and was a good painter. The image of Shuji Terayama in me has always been dark and introverted...
It was also impressive that each "character" was artistically expressed as a shape. Also, since he was young, he had a very special relationship with his mother, and he said that they often did "mouth exercises" together. It seems that they enjoyed pronouncing words while playing with them. You may have pronounced the letters since you were little and felt them like music.
When he was young, he was also a radio newscaster. It seems that he also directed Bartok's opera, and he was actively challenging various fields as a cultural person at that time!
There were many discoveries at this exhibition today.
The importance of writing, telling, and recording in your own handwriting. I thought it was a meaningful message that would lead to the next generation. Things, events, and people you meet. The accumulation of this daily life becomes the power of imagination. I once again thought that playing letters and notes moves people's hearts.
