[Yokosuka-Miura Area]Enjoy the scenic beauty of Kanagawa’s seas

Located in southeastern Kanagawa Prefecture, the Miura Peninsula (Yokosuka-Miura) adjoins Tokyo Bay to the east and Sagami Bay to the west, and visitors can enjoy art surrounded by lush natural beauty, as well as activities like swimming in the sea and hiking.
Here we introduce two art museums in the Yokosuka and Hayama areas where you can enjoy both art and gourmet dining.

This art museum was built in picturesque Kannonzaki on the eastern edge of the Miura Peninsula. In addition to planned exhibitions six times per year, collection exhibitions display works of Japanese modern and contemporary art, and the Rokuro Taniuchi Hall annex presents the works of Rokuro Taniuchi, an artist who depicted Japan’s Showa era (1926-1988), through rotating exhibits. Surrounded by a rich natural environment overlooking Tokyo Bay, the excellent view is part of the appeal of this art museum, and it has even been selected for lists of art museums with picturesque scenery. It also has a range of additional facilities, including a museum gift shop, and a restaurant where visitors can enjoy Italian cuisine made with local ingredients.

〈Access〉Board the Keikyu Bus bound for Kannonzaki from Keikyu Line Mabori Kaigan Station, disembark at Kannonzaki Keikyu Hotel-Yokosuka Bijutsukan-mae, and walk for 2 min.
〈Cost〉(Collection Exhibitions) General: ¥310, High school, university, and seniors 65 and older: ¥210 (Planned exhibitions vary depending on the exhibit) Free admission for junior high school students and under, plus free admission for high school students (from schools in Yokosuka only)

The interior features wall-length windows offering a view of Tokyo Bay. Visitors can enjoy lunch sets and prix fixe meals made with local ingredients, plus homemade desserts, while taking in the sea view in a bright and open atmosphere. For dinner, enjoy delicious cuisine and a wide variety of wines amid candlelight and a relaxingly subdued atmosphere.

The Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama has a collection of 14,000 pieces, mainly Japanese modern and contemporary art. In 2003, the museum has renamed to The Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura & Hayama as our third building has opened in Hayama. In addition to exhibition rooms with varying ceiling heights and lighting where planned exhibits and collection exhibits are held, the museum has a variety of facilities which include an art library for collecting documents and disseminating information, a lecture hall with audio-visual equipment, and a repository with all the very best in preservation technology. To enable visitors to interact with the art museum on more casual terms, the entrance hall, courtyard, restaurant, museum gift shop, garden, and the art library on the B1F level are all accessible without paying admission.

〈Access〉Board the Zu Route 11 or 12 (Kaigan Mawari) Keikyu Bus from the JR Yokosuka Line Zushi Station (Boarding Area 3) or Keikyu Shin-Zushi Station (South Exit Boarding Area 2), and disembark at the Sangaoka-Kanagawa Kenritsu Kindai Bijutuskan-mae stop (the bus ride takes about 20 min.)
