We will have an exhibition of Richard Gorman, a leading artist from Dublin, Milan, Japan and Ireland with production bases around the world.

Born in Dublin in 1946, Gorman studied business administration at the prestigious Trinity College and got a job in the automotive industry, but was unable to abandon his dream from a boyhood, and entered the art school at the age of 31 and became the painter as a painter I have taken a step. My relationship with Japan is old, and since I met Echizen Washi made at Iwano Hirasaburo Paper Mill in Fukui in the 90's, I used it in subsequent works as an important material. The delicate work of Japanese paper is in stark contrast to the solid form of canvas with canvas.

The feature of Gorman's work is the combination of geometric shapes that are color-coded with exquisite color. These films, organic and playful, are described by the Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan as “Emotional Geometry” (Emotional Geometry).

Goman, who had longed for Shonan land from Junichiro Tanizaki's literature, visited the Chigasaki City Museum of Art in 2015. Since then, I have created works on the premise of the exhibition at the same building. It is one of the purposes of this exhibition to try to blend the aesthetics nurtured in Ireland with the culture of Shonan and Chigasaki. We, as a viewer, may be able to recall the feelings we have slept in and forgotten through about 20 "emotional geometric shapes".
