A series of bars in Yokohama where women go alone and encounter beautiful drinks♡ This time, we headed to a long counter with a length of 18 meters and the name of the store, which is close to Yokohama Stadium and Yokohama Chinatown. A bar with an interior design inspired by a certain vehicle. Its name is "cable car". From Bashamichi where the editorial department is located, it is a short stroll along Osanbashi Street. If you go through Genbumon, the north gate that invites you to Chinatown, you will arrive in 1 minute on foot.

A long counter that boasts an overwhelming length. Among them, the bartenders move left and right. Thanks to his daily training, he seems to have no trouble working behind the long counter, and his movements are very smooth and beautiful.

The first owner of this bar is the late Jimmy Stockwell, an American barman who is said to have brought bar culture to Japan. We interviewed the current owner, Mr. Yoshida, who inherited Mr. Jimmy's desire to "provide a place where adults can socialize with delicious sake and a comfortable time."

Owner Yuichi Yoshida.

By the way, why a cable car? …The answer is that the concept is “an old San Francisco bar in the 1890s.” San Francisco is known for its many slopes and is famous for its cable cars. Some even visit San Francisco to ride the cable cars that run through the city. At that time, Mr. Jimmy took the trouble to bring a Japanese carpenter to San Francisco, show him the real cable car, and have him work on the interior to bring it closer to its image.

I sat down at the long counter seat, which is the face of the shop, and first of all, I made a cocktail "Pastel Flower" for spring to early summer. Grapefruit juice, tequila, and Hypnotic, a fruit liqueur blended with kiwi, pineapple, and passion fruit. People who like fruity cocktails will absolutely love this refreshing drink!

This is Hypnotic, a popular liqueur in France.

Mr. Yoshida continues to protect the "adult social gathering place" that the predecessor Jimmy valued. "It's informal and friendly. Sometimes it's okay to make a lot of noise if it's fun. I always want to cherish the unique style of the cable car that Jimmy has created. Of course, all the customers are moderate adults, so I'd like to see other customers." If a customer behaves in a way that is not suitable for adult social gatherings, I will scold them clearly, whether they are politicians or famous people. ”

So, is it okay for people who are new to the bar, who don't know the types of alcohol or how to order, and who aren't used to adult social gatherings? When asked, "Even if you're young or you're new to this kind of restaurant, we welcome you as long as you follow the rules. We're professionals, so if you don't know how to order, feel free to leave it up to the bartenders." Just tell us what you would like to drink, such as sweet, refreshing, light, or heavy, and we'll do it! I didn't write down the full menu on purpose.Since you've come all the way to a restaurant with a bartender, I want you to enjoy conversation even if you just order a drink."

I worry that if a beginner sits nervously at the counter, I might be a nuisance to regular customers. When you enter, I want you to throw away your business card and have a drink. I stand at the counter with the awareness that everyone in the cable car is the same."

“As you can see from our coasters, we do not claim to be a bar at all, we aim to be a 'saloon' that is a social gathering place for adults. It's Jimmy's desire to have you enjoy yourself comfortably, including time and space," says Yoshida.

Behind the counter, there are also spacious table seats that can be used by groups.

The same goes for the first cup of "Pastel Flower", but this time the bartender Harada-san made the sake. For the second drink, he made a recommendation in response to my request to have a slightly stronger drink.

Mr. Harada, who has been a bartender for three years, apparently met Mr. Jimmy, the previous owner, as a customer.

“I am currently in the process of studying to be a bartender under the owner Yoshida. I'm learning every day, such as whether it looks delicious when I do it.I always stand by the customer's point of view and stand with an awareness of beautiful behavior.I aim to be a bartender who can make customers happy by making it in front of them! I study every step of the way, so I don't waste any time at the counter.I feel happy as a bartender when the customer feels comfortable and says 'thank you'," says Mr. Harada. Cable car bartenders never drink alcohol during business hours, no matter how many customers recommend it. The reason is very clear: "The bartender's job is not to get drunk, but to make customers feel comfortable." This is also the teaching of Mr. Yoshida.

Well, this is the "Heavy Jack" that I had for the second time. This is a very rare cocktail!!

It seems that it is made with a vodka base and a liqueur called "Yukon Jack". I think it's a book. I'm afraid I shouldn't have given you such a great cocktail... It's strong, but that's why it's so filling and really delicious ♡ "Our motto is to make any strong cocktail easy to drink." As Mr. Harada says, it's really easy to drink!!

This is "Yukon Jack", which is said to be a phantom liqueur. Thank you, Bacchus, for letting us meet on this day~♡

On this night, I was very happy to hear from Mr. Yoshida and Mr. Harada, who have inherited and cherished the invisible “thoughts” of their predecessors, not just the visible store itself. I was. We had a warm time together with the delicious sake carefully made by Mr. Harada. I would like to visit again slowly as an adult social gathering place. Thank you for the wonderful time! & Thank you for the meal!!

bonus. A portrait of the actor and film director John Wayne, nicknamed "Duke", and his autograph were found at the entrance of the shop!
