YOKOHAMA ART SPOT FILE
Yokohama City's cultural and artistic creation and transmission base
The approximately 1,000-square-meter warehouse on the 1st basement floor of "Shin-Takashima Station" on the Yokohama Minatomirai Line has been developed as a base for contemporary art exhibitions and creative activities by artists and creators, and will open in February 2019.
Exhibitions, performances, schools, etc. are held, and contemporary art is exhibited and video works are introduced in a large space with exposed concrete in a corner of the adjacent passage.
It is an art space where future activities are expected.
The location is on the way to the ground exit after exiting the Yokohama Minatomirai Line "Shin-Takashima Station" ticket gate and going up one escalator.
Also from here.
Immediately after going down the stairs from the ground floor entrance of "Shin-Takashima Station" on the Yokohama Minatomirai Line
Originally, the space was prepared as a bypass for connecting to the ground floor in order to develop the ground floor.
The place, which was no longer used due to various reasons and was a large space with bare concrete, was provided by the city of Yokohama and used as an art space.
Construction of a huge building of a major company is underway on "Bank ART Station".
Works that I was very interested in
The huge wall of the underground passage is also used as an art space for displaying contemporary art and projecting video works.
Space for exhibitions, performances, schools, etc.
About the name "BankART". "Bank"? "ART"? I think many people thought that.
"BankART 1929", which operates the facility, is an initiative project of the creative city concept promoted by Yokohama City.
Fifteen years ago, in 2004, it was named "BankART" because it utilized the buildings of the former bank of Bashamichi (former Daiichi Bank Yokohama Branch (currently YCC Yokohama Creative City Center) and the former Fuji Bank.
The relocation continued due to the use of a historic building, and the longest-used base is a vast space renovated from the former warehouse of NYK, which was built in 1953 (a complex cultural facility facing the red brick warehouse on the opposite bank). In 2008, it also became the venue for the Yokohama Triennale.
After that, it was closed in March 2018 due to the deterioration of the facility.
"BankART Station" was born in February 2019 as a facility to relay "BankART Studio NYK".
Currently, there are four facilities centered on the Minatomirai Line, "BankART Station (Shin-Takashima Station)", "BankART SILK (Nippon Odori Station", Silk Center Building 1F) "," BankART Home (Bashamichi Station) / Art / Architecture It is the core of "Kai Cafe Shop" and "R16 Studio (Shin-Takashima Station) / Under the elevated track of the Tokyu Toyoko Line abandoned line".

Originally, "BankART Station" used the space that was used as a warehouse.
