ST Spot Yokohama (formerly the ST Spot Management Committee) was organized by volunteer citizens as the management organization for the small space "ST Spot" opened by the city of Yokohama in November 1987.
In April 2000, ST Spot Yokohama organized a board of directors, and in June 2004, it obtained legal status and established the "ST Spot Yokohama NPO" (hereinafter referred to as NPO ST Spot Yokohama). The opening of ST Spot led to a rapid increase in local theatrical activities. Since then, it has become a base for young artists in dance, music, video, and art. Our organization is engaged in organic expansion through business development to promote these creative activities, information service provision, network construction, and other initiatives, expanding the base of performing arts locally and nationally and producing many young talents. In April 2004, we established an art education business. With a focus on collaboration with the government, we are developing businesses specialized in art education, such as sending artists to schools as lecturers, training specialized personnel, and developing programs, in order to promote the healthy development of children and the spread of art.
Although it is the smallest in the city, ST Spot has great potential and is positioned as a new operating model for publicly-run, privately-run theaters, and continues to operate as a non-profit organization responsible for promoting the arts in a broad sense.
