Kamakura City Kawakita Film Museum

Kamakura City Kawakita Film Museum

The Kamakura Kawakita Film Museum opened in April 2010 on the former home of Kawakita Nagamasa and Kashiko, a couple who made a major contribution to the development of film, in the hopes of promoting film culture in Kamakura. The museum exhibits film materials, screens films, and also offers the opportunity to browse film-related materials and conduct web searches. Lectures, lectures, and workshops are also held throughout the year.

The building is a single-story Japanese-style structure, modeled after the Sukiya-zukuri style, and blends in with the surrounding environment. The wooden fence has also been restored to its original appearance, and the bright, wide opening of the exhibition room offers a view of the lush garden, creating the tranquil atmosphere of the ancient capital of Kamakura.

Although it is close to the bustling Komachi-dori street, it is located in a quiet environment that makes it hard to believe it is just one block away, allowing you to spend a relaxing time in the ancient city of Kamakura. Although movie theaters have now disappeared from Kamakura, the theater is equipped with a film projector and regularly screens classic films from all over the world, allowing you to enjoy movies on a large screen.
