Hie Shrine was founded in 1913 as a guardian deity of Yoshida Shinden, which was the cornerstone of the development of Yokohama, at the request of Edo's Sanno Shrine (former Kanpei Taisha Hie Shrine). Today, it is widely known as "Osannomiya" or "Osansama", and is revered by the parishioners and the general public of Yokohama as the "guardian deity of the development of Yokohama".
