See, eat, and experience the culture of your hometown in an old folk house!

古民家のふるさとの文化を、観て、食べて、触れて体験!

We are holding an event to convey the culture of the hometown of old folk houses!
~What I want to continue to convey~ A gift from my hometown

The Kawasaki City Japanese Folk House Garden, located in a corner of the Ikuta Green Park, is a lush museum with a total of 25 old folk houses, including 7 nationally designated Important Cultural Properties, scattered over a spacious site of approximately 30,000 square meters. . It's strange that seeing an old folk house with a thatched roof for the first time feels somehow nostalgic and suddenly makes you feel at ease.

An exciting spring-like event will be held in a space surrounded by old folk houses!
The theme areas are Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Koshu City, Yamanashi Prefecture, and Shiwa Town, Shiwa District, Iwate Prefecture, where old folk houses are on display within the park. There will be performances of folk performing arts passed down from all over the country and products for sale, so why not go out and enjoy a stroll?
The ``Old Funakoshi Stage'', which is the venue for folk entertainment performances from the three regions, was built in 1857 at the end of the Edo period, and is a valuable building designated as a national important tangible folk cultural property. It is a splendid building equipped with the necessary equipment for Kabuki plays, including a revolving stage with a diameter of 3 ken (5.4 m) and a flower path with a raised turtle. Sitting on a bench and watching the folk performing arts unfold on stage, you'll feel like you've traveled back to the Edo period.
Food and drinks will also be sold on the day of the event, so you can enjoy the stage performance while eating and drinking, just like in an old-fashioned playhouse.

During the event, there will also be wine classes, a Makie brooch making experience, and an indigo dyeing experience for foreigners. You can enjoy a relaxing day with your family and friends.
*For this event, admission fees will be waived for those who wish to watch the entertainment performances or participate in the lectures and experiences. Please let us know that you will be participating when you enter the nursery school.

[Folk entertainment performance]
①Date and time: March 23rd (Sat) 13:00~
Shinshiro folk entertainment music song mochi (designated as an important folk art by Kawasaki City) *Kawasaki City
It is said that the Shinshiro folk performing art ``Mukyamochi'' began at the beginning of the Meiji period, when young men who boasted of their strength and skill used stones, mortars, straw bales, and sake barrels to compete against each other during breaks from farm work. As the times changed, it evolved to use stepladders, boxes, etc. to hold songs. On the other hand, Hayashi is said to have its origins in Kamakura Hayashi, which was started by Minamoto no Yoritomo when he became the Seii Taishogun. The world in which the melody and the hayashi work together is lively, thrilling, and suspenseful. Please enjoy the spectacular world that has been selected as one of Kanagawa Prefecture's top 50 folk performing arts.

Ichinose Takahashi's Harukoma (Yamanashi Prefecture designated intangible folk cultural property) *Koshu City
This is a traditional New Year event handed down in the Ichinose Takahashi area in the northern part of Koshu City. It celebrates the New Year and wishes for the safety of the family and a good harvest in the coming year, and is characterized by a dance performed by a man playing the role of Tsuyuharai and a horse decorated with origami, ``Harukoma.'' Please enjoy the gorgeous New Year dance.

Yamaya rice planting dance (nationally designated important intangible folk cultural property) *Shiwa Town

The rice-planting dance, which is a pre-celebratory event held mainly around the New Year, is one of the events called ``zashiki rice-planting.'' It began with the festival of hatsai on New Year's Day, and used to be performed every day and night during the winter, going around the houses of husbands and wives to pray for a bumper harvest that year.
The dance consists of movements that imitate rice cultivation and agricultural work, and the total performance time is as long as 4 hours when a year's rice cultivation process is performed. This time we will have a compact performance, so please feel free to come by.
