Kamakura City Kawakita Film Museum

Kamakura City Kawakita Film Museum

The Kamakura Kawakita Film Museum was opened in April 2010 on the former home of Nagamasa Kawakita and his wife Kashiko, who made a major contribution to the development of film, in hopes of promoting film culture in Kamakura. The museum exhibits film materials, screens films, and also allows visitors to browse film-related materials and conduct web searches. Lectures, lectures, and workshops are also held throughout the year.

The building is a single-story Japanese-style structure, with a sukiya-style design that blends in with the surrounding environment. The wooden fence has also been restored to its original appearance, and the exhibition room's bright and wide opening offers a view of the lush garden, creating the tranquil atmosphere of the ancient city of Kamakura.

Although it is close to the bustling Komachi-dori street, it is located in a quiet environment that you would never guess is just one street away, allowing you to spend a relaxing time in the atmosphere of the ancient city of Kamakura. Although the lights of movie theaters have disappeared from Kamakura city, the theater equipped with a film projector regularly shows masterpieces from all over the world and throughout history, allowing you to enjoy movies on a large screen.
