Set in early 17th century Flanders (now Belgium), this is a sensual satire depicting the wisdom and resourcefulness of women. Takuyuki Kiyooka chose Charles Spaak's screenplay as the subject of his graduation thesis.
Won the Director's Award at the 1936 Venice Film Festival and was ranked first in Kinema Junpo's Top Ten Foreign Language Films in 1937.
