The Chigasaki City Museum of Art opened in April 1998 as a facility that not only widely introduces local artists and their works through exhibitions, but also supports the creative endeavors of local residents. Takasago Ryokuchi Park, where the museum is located, was once the home of Kawakami Otojiro and Sadayakko, the Meiji-era Shinpa actors known for their Oppekepe-bushi song, and the vacation home of businessman Hara Yasusaburo. Even today, the park's lush greenery, which remains untouched throughout the year, includes an authentic Japanese garden. It is one of the city's leading spots for viewing plum blossoms and a place of relaxation for local residents.
