Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki

Taro Okamoto Museum of Art, Kawasaki

The Kawasaki City Museum of Art opened in 1999, three years after the death of Taro Okamoto, one of Japan's leading artists of the 20th century. It houses and displays 1,779 works donated to Kawasaki City by Taro Okamoto. In addition to special exhibitions and permanent collections, the museum also hosts various events such as tours and workshops.

The symbol tower of the Taro Okamoto Museum of Art is the 30-meter-tall "Mother's Tower." Based on a prototype created with the image of "the strength of a giant tree deeply rooted in the earth," "the rich and voluptuous gentleness of a mother," and "eternal life burning towards the sky," it was faithfully reproduced to fulfill Taro Okamoto's intentions.
