This building is the house that writer Satomi Ton personally designed and lived in in 1926. After Satomi moved out in 1936, the house was requisitioned by the US military and used as a hotel, before being lovingly lived in as the home of the current owner, Mr. Ishikawa. In 1994, it was designated as an Important Landscape Building of the city (designation no. 8).
Nishimikado Salone is rented by studio acca, a first-class architectural firm, from Mr. Ishikawa and is open to the public as a place where people can gather, learn, and talk. As a way of preserving and utilizing this valuable architectural asset, a portion of the revenue from planning events and renting out the space in this building is used to cover the maintenance and repair costs of the building.
