Yokohama Nigiwai-za was born as a specialized venue for popular entertainment such as rakugo (comic storytelling), manzai (comedy duo), and street performances. Yokohama was once a vibrant town lined with vaudeville theaters and playhouses. Carrying on this tradition into the present day, Yokohama Nigiwai-za has walked its path as a place to enjoy performing arts and a place to create new forms of entertainment.
