Yokohama Nigiwai-za was born as a specialty center for popular entertainment such as rakugo, manzai, and street performances. The town of Yokohama used to be lined with vaudeville theaters and playhouses, and was lively every day. Yokohama Nigiwai-za has continued to carry on tradition, serving as a place where people can enjoy performing arts and a place where new performing arts can be created.
