Taniuchi Rokuro was responsible for the cover illustrations of Weekly Shincho for 26 years, starting in 1956 (Showa 31). The total number of original drawings is approximately 1,300. Among them are not only nostalgic scenes of the past, but also original drawings that deal with dark emotions such as anxiety and fear, as well as original drawings that depict witty scenes that are characteristic of Taniuchi. The Taniuchi Rokuro Museum is currently exhibiting these original cover illustrations.
The Taniuchi Rokuro Museum has a long, narrow exhibition room and a square, annex-like exhibition room separated by a courtyard. Using this space, an exhibition will be held, centering on the cover illustrations of Weekly Shincho, which are housed at the Yokosuka Museum of Art. With over 1,300 works depicting various scenes, even those familiar with Weekly Shincho are sure to find something new every time they visit the Taniuchi Rokuro Museum. Related works and materials will also be on display, introducing the nostalgic world of Taniuchi Rokuro.
