This museum, specializing in contemporary Japanese painting, stands on a hill overlooking Lake Ashi. It houses a substantial collection of works by artists such as Yamamoto Kyujin, Hirayama Ikuo, and Hori Fumiko, as well as numerous outstanding works by other accomplished contemporary Japanese painters (with exhibits changing three times a year). In addition, it also displays traditional crafts such as kaleidoscopes, Noh masks, and lacquerware.
From our 50-meter-long panoramic observation lounge, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji, a scene like a painting, as the seasons unfold. We hope that our guests can find a moment of peace and tranquility amidst masterpieces of modern Japanese painting and Hakone's finest scenery.
