Cinema Jack & Betty

Cinema Jack & Betty

Cinema Jack & Betty, an independent cinema complex with two screens—Jack, Yokohama's last remaining classic film theater, and Betty, its only independent mini-theater—opened in December 1991. Its predecessor was the Yokohama Meigaza, which opened on December 25, 1952 (Showa 27), immediately after the end of GHQ occupation. Cinema Jack & Betty faced the threat of closure twice afterward, but in 2007, the current manager, Mr. Kajiwara, and deputy manager, Mr. Kobayashi, who were in their twenties at the time, quit their jobs to carry on its history.
