Bringing smiles to everyone through entertainment - Mama Rhythm Papa Rhythm

エンターテインメントを通して、みんなに笑顔を―ままリズムぱぱリズム―

Mama Rhythm Papa Rhythm was started by a mother who met a kindergarten teacher, a former member of the Shiki Theatre Company, and a former theme park dancer. The origin of their activities was a kind and loving desire to create an environment where mothers could go outside with peace of mind and to provide a place where they could make friends with other mothers. This time, we spoke to the members of this group.

Ms. Takiguchi and Ms. Mori, who studied expressive education in the same department at the same university, reunited after becoming mothers and started "Mama Rhythm Papa Rhythm" with the aim of cheering up moms and dads through entertainment.

"When children start to walk, I felt there wasn't anywhere they could take them to play, so I started this event with the hope of creating a place where anyone and the whole family could participate. I hope that through entertainment at events, everyone will smile and the circle of happiness will spread," says Takiguchi.

What started as an activity for mothers in Aoba Ward has now expanded to three locations in the ward. The content has expanded beyond just mothers to include multi-generational interaction. The original members were Takiguchi and Mori, but with the addition of Takada, a former theme park dancer, and Murakami, a former member of Shiki Theatre Company, the group now has four main instructors.

Furthermore, the group is now expanding its activities outside of the prefecture. In May 2022, one of the founders, Ms. Mori, established a branch in Chiba and began offering classes for postpartum mothers.

Now, many members are participating in the activities.

"Some of the people who worked in the same workplace have become mothers and joined our activities, and some local childcare supporters who used to participate when their children were young have joined our staff. Through these connections between people, our membership has grown."

Currently, we have people with a wide range of titles participating in our activities, including video production creators, web designers, community coordinators, and welfare officers. You can view the profiles of our talented staff on our website. Our programs utilize the expertise of these members, so the content is diverse. All of them are sure to bring a smile to the faces of parents raising children.

The multi-generational classes held in Fujigaoka are enjoyed by people of all ages.

Mama Rhythm Papa Rhythm began its activities in 2017. When asked about a particularly memorable event, everyone answered, "The Yoga & Dance Festival held in March 2023." This event brought together dance instructors from Mama Rhythm Yokohama and Chiba, and was the first large-scale in-person event in three years. As a multi-generational musical, 120 people, including staff, participated.

"In addition to the increasing number of nuclear families, opportunities to interact with others have decreased due to the effects of COVID-19, so we place importance on interactions that are not bound by age. Mothers who actually participated said that they learned that multi-generational interaction is possible in this way, and seniors said that they were encouraged. It was also nice that we were able to see the expressions on the participants' faces because it was face-to-face."

The happy expressions on the faces of the children in the photos and videos were also impressive. The sign language dance in which everyone participated was a must-see! You can see what happened on the day on YouTube.

If you'd like to participate, we'll be holding a workshop in September for children from 0 years old to elementary school age.

If you are interested in "Mama Rhythm Papa Rhythm," we currently hold regular classes in three locations in Kanagawa Prefecture: Fujigaoka, Azamino, and Tama Plaza. Anyone can participate, and we also have Saturday dance classes that are convenient for working people.

When asked what she keeps in mind in her classes, she replied, "We value building connections. We'd like to provide a place where moms can make friends." She also said that she always includes content that will allow moms to interact and spark communication. It's reassuring to know that there is a place where moms raising children can interact with each other.

Baby classes held on weekdays

"We also hold seasonal events, such as Halloween in October and Christmas in December. We post them on Instagram, so we hope you will take a look. We are also accepting bookings for traveling classes, touring performances, and trial sessions. If you are interested, please contact us," says Takiguchi with a smile.
