Ryutopia Niigata City Arts and Culture Hall welcomes Jo Kanamori as artistic director of the dance department.
Founded in April 2004 as Japan's first theater-resident dance company.
Based in Niigata, the group has toured Japan and has also performed in 10 cities in 7 countries overseas.
Their works and company activities, backed by professional physicality and a keen awareness of current issues, have been highly praised.
In 2009, it was co-produced with the Moscow Chekhov Theater Festival, and in 2011, it was produced by the Saito Kinen Festival Matsumoto.
They have expanded the scope of their activities by participating in opera and ballet productions as a company, and are still the only dance company in Japan that is affiliated exclusively with a public theater.
The group continues to engage in creative activities in order to play a part in the development of Japanese theater culture in the 21st century.
