Osamu Hashimoto, who ended his life with the Heisei era, will return to Yokohama in the spring of 2020.
Osamu Hashimoto (1948-2019) made his debut as a novelist in 1977 with Momojiri Musume, a story about the daily lives of high school students, and shocked the world with his unprecedented style and content. Hashimoto, who was already active as an illustrator, went on to write novels, discuss love, sex, family, and the times, direct plays and events, teach people how to knit sweaters, and read classics. He was very active. It is said that Hashimoto's driving force for delving into any unknown field without hesitation was his desire to elucidate what he did not understand. The results have resulted in a huge number of works, which continue to bring great blessings to us.
Since 2019, our museum has been collecting materials such as Osamu Hashimoto's handwritten manuscripts that have been donated by his family and friends and preserving them as the Osamu Hashimoto Bunko. This exhibition traces the life of Hashimoto, who was ahead of his time and also sought to portray humans and the era in which they lived, through materials in our collection.
The final chapter of the ``Momojiri Musume'' series concludes with a hint of hope for the future at the port-viewing hill park where our museum is located. We hope that you will be able to experience a new side of Osamu Hashimoto, who has returned to Japan.
