Special exhibition for the second half of the 2024 fiscal year: "Chigasaki and Ooka Echizennokami: A 400-year-long bond"
A special exhibition unravelling the bond between Chigasaki and Ooka Echizennokami
This exhibition focuses on Tsutsumi Village (present Tsutsumi Village, Chigasaki City), which was the fief of the Ooka family for generations, and the history of their relationship with the famous Edo period magistrate, Ooka Echizennokami Tadasuke.
We will also introduce the activities carried out in the early Showa period, led by Yamamiya Tokichi, to honor Ooka Echizennokami Tadasuke and restore Jokenji Temple, the Ooka family temple, which was destroyed in the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923.
These activities have led to the current "Ooka Echizen Festival" and are a source of pride for the local community. Why not come and experience the historical figure of Ooka Echizen no Kami Tadasuke and his achievements, along with his deep ties to Chigasaki?
Jokenji Temple is home to over 60 graves, mainly belonging to heads of the Ooka family, from the founder, Tadakatsu, to the 14th, Tadasuke, and was designated the city's first cultural asset in 1961 as the "Ooka family graveyard."
