Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura Annex
The Kamakura Annex, which opened in 1984, is located about 350 meters on foot from the former Kamakura Museum (closed in March 2016) towards Kita-Kamakura. The architect was Masato Otaka (1923-2010). The design was carefully crafted to blend into the residential area nestled between the mountains. After more than 30 years of operation, and after a two-year closure for facility renovations and improvements to user services, it reopened on October 12, 2019. The walls of the exhibition rooms were completely redesigned, and a cafe space and other amenities were added to the terrace facing the sculpture garden, improving accessibility. |
