The area around Saikachikoji, near Odawara Castle, was once home to many samurai residences, and from the Meiji to Showa periods, many literary figures, including Junichiro Tanizaki and Tatsuji Miyoshi, lived and wrote there. The Literature Museum, located in a corner of Saikachikoji, exhibits materials related to Tanizaki and other writers with close ties to Odawara, as well as native writers such as Tokoku Kitamura and Kazuo Ozaki. The museum also houses the Hakushu Children's Song Museum, which displays materials related to Hakushu Kitahara, and a partially relocated version of Kazuo Ozaki's study. The Literature Museum and Hakushu Children's Song Museum are housed in the villa of former Minister of the Imperial Household, Mitsuaki Tanaka. The Southern European-style Literature Museum and the purely Japanese-style Hakushu Children's Song Museum are both attractive buildings, along with gardens that offer beautiful seasonal views.
