Saikachi-koji, a street close to Odawara Castle, was once home to many samurai residences, and from the Meiji to Showa periods many literary figures, including Junichiro Tanizaki and Tatsuji Miyoshi, lived and wrote there. The Literature Museum, located in a corner of Saikachi-koji, exhibits materials on literary figures with deep ties to Odawara, such as Tanizaki, as well as writers from Odawara such as Tokoku Kitamura and Kazuo Ozaki. The museum grounds also include the Hakushu Children's Song Museum, which exhibits materials related to Kitahara Hakushu, and the partially relocated study of Kazuo Ozaki. The Literature Museum and Hakushu Children's Song Museum occupy the villa of former Minister of the Imperial Household Tanaka Mitsuaki, and the Southern European-style Literature Museum and the purely Japanese-style Hakushu Children's Song Museum are both attractive buildings, along with gardens that show off the charms of the four seasons.
