"Hakone marquetry" began to be made in the Hakone region at the end of the Edo period. The museum exhibits a collection that traditional craftsman Homma Noboru has amassed over many years with the aim of preventing the historic marquetry from being lost and passing on the techniques.
In the workshop, you can observe the craftsmen at work through glass, and there is also a hands-on class (reservation required) where you can make coasters with your own original designs.
