Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) is located on the 3rd floor of a retro space that has been restored from a dedicated warehouse attached to the former Yokohama Raw Silk Inspection Center.
A dance house that plans and operates businesses specializing in creating a professional dance environment and nurturing all kinds of dance-related creators.
Eri Karatsu (Senior Producer, Aichi Prefectural Art Theater) serves as the artistic director, and in order to develop dance as a complex art, she not only works with artists such as choreographers and dancers, but also musicians, artists, videographers, lighting designers, and sound designers. We also aim to become a hub for interaction between producers, production staff, critics, researchers, and audiences.
Dance Base Yokohama has been given the nickname DaBY in order to become a magnetic platform where many people related to dance can gather without any barriers. Although it is a residence space for creation, it also interacts with local artists and citizens, and plans to develop even more diverse endeavors, such as holding workshops, experimental tryout performances, and a dance archive project.
