Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) is located on the third floor of a retro space that was created by restoring the former Yokohama Silk Inspection Station's annex warehouse.
A dance house that plans and operates businesses specializing in developing professional dance environments and nurturing all kinds of creators related to dance.
With Eri Karatsu (Senior Producer at Aichi Prefectural Arts Theatre) as artistic director, the aim is to create a hub for interaction among not only artists such as choreographers and dancers, but also musicians, visual artists, video artists, lighting designers, sound designers, as well as producers, production staff, critics, researchers, and audience members, in order to promote the development of dance as a multifaceted art form.
Dance Base Yokohama has been given the nickname DaBY (pronounced "Davey") with the hope that it will become a magnetic field and platform where many people involved in dance can gather without barriers. While it is a residency space for creation, it will also interact with local artists and citizens, and plans to develop even more diverse initiatives such as workshops, experimental tryout performances, and dance archiving projects.
