Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) is located on the third floor of a retro space that was restored from the former Yokohama Raw Silk Inspection Office warehouse.
Dance House plans and operates projects that specialize in creating a professional dance environment and nurturing all dance-related creators.
Led by Eri Karatsu (Senior Producer at Aichi Arts Center) as Artistic Director, the center aims to foster the development of dance as a multidisciplinary art form by serving as a hub for interaction between not only artists such as choreographers and dancers, but also musicians, visual artists, filmmakers, lighting designers, sound designers, producers, production staff, critics, researchers, and audiences.
Dance Base Yokohama has nicknamed it DaBY, hoping that it will become a magnetic field, or platform, where many people interested in dance can come together without barriers. While it will be a residence space for creative endeavors, it will also foster interaction with local artists and citizens, and plans to develop a wide range of other initiatives, including workshops, experimental tryout performances, and a dance archive project.
