Dance Base Yokohama (DaBY) is located on the third floor of a retro space that was restored from the former Yokohama Raw Silk Inspection Office warehouse.
Dance House plans and operates projects that specialize in providing a professional dance environment and nurturing all dance-related creators.
The center is headed by artistic director Eri Karatsu (senior producer at Aichi Arts Center), and aims to serve as a hub for the development of dance, a complex art form, by bringing together not only artists such as choreographers and dancers, but also musicians, visual artists, filmmakers, lighting designers, sound designers, producers, production staff, critics, researchers, and audiences.
Dance Base Yokohama has nicknamed it DaBY, hoping that it will become a magnetic field, or platform, where many people interested in dance can gather without barriers. While it is a residence space for creative endeavors, it also has plans to hold workshops, experimental tryout performances, and a dance archive project, as well as to engage in a wide range of other endeavors.
