In Noh, there are many pieces called ``Shura Noh'' (second thing). ``Shura Noh'' depicts the state of battle with the military commanders of the Genpei period as the main characters, and depicts human suffering and sadness against the backdrop of Buddhist ideas such as the idea of impermanence.However, there are also songs that let you feel the elegant side of the military commanders. Many of these contrasts make the work's tragic nature stand out even more.
In this planned performance, we will present a six-part series of famous Shura Noh songs that will give you a sense of the elegant side of military commanders. Each performance features gagaku performances related to each song, a lecture on waka poetry, and a memorial service for the Kannon Taipo, making it a performance that allows you to experience more deeply the elegance of the military commanders of the time and the impermanence at the end of battle. A special lecture will also be held in conjunction with the performance. Following the lecture, we will hold a discussion from a variety of perspectives, unraveling the thoughts, culture, and lifestyle of Japanese people at the time, and delving into the world of Shura Noh, so please enjoy it to the fullest.
The second "Shura Noh and Kyogen" performance to be performed on October 7th (Sunday) will focus on military commanders depicted in Kyogen. The Kyogen "Satsuma no kami", which is an interesting play on the words "Nasu", which tells the anecdote of Yoichi Nasu hitting the target with a fan in the battle of Yashima, the "free rider" and "Satsuma no kami Tadanori", and the Noh "Yorimasa" I would like to present to you the Kyogen play ``Tsuen,'' which was created in imitation of the lyrics of the Battle of Ujibashi.
