"Vietnam Festa in Kanagawa 2023"
Do you know how many Vietnamese people live in Japan?
The number of foreign residents in Japan has exceeded 3 million for the first time, with approximately 490,000 of them being Vietnamese (data as of the end of 2022).
In Kanagawa Prefecture, where approximately 240,000 foreigners from 176 different countries and regions live, the second largest group by nationality is Vietnamese, with about 29,000 residents (data as of January 1, 2023).
This year, 2023, marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Vietnam (the two countries established diplomatic relations on September 21, 1973).
Taking this opportunity to promote future development and mutual understanding between Kanagawa Prefecture and Vietnam, the "Vietnam Festa in Kanagawa," which has been held annually since 2015, will take place from September 9th to September 10th.

We have prepared numerous programs that allow visitors to participate, interact, and fully experience Vietnamese culture and charm, with the aim of deepening the exchange and ties between Kanagawa Prefecture and Vietnam for the future.

Basic information about Vietnam
Vietnam borders southern China and faces the South China Sea. Its landmass is long and narrow, stretching approximately 1,650 kilometers from north to south.
The capital city of Hanoi is located in the mountainous region of the north, Da Nang is in the central region, and the major city of Ho Chi Minh City is in the south.
Hanoi
Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is the political, cultural, and historical center. With a history spanning over 1,000 years, it was once known as "the place where the dragon descends," and boasts numerous historical buildings and sites.
It is said to be the birthplace of pho, a noodle dish made with rice, and you can enjoy delicious food such as banh mi (Vietnamese-style sandwiches).

Da Nang
Da Nang is one of Vietnam's leading beach resorts. You can enjoy both the beautiful beaches of the resort area and the historic cityscape with its rows of traditional Vietnamese buildings. Fresh seafood caught in the South China Sea is a local specialty.

Ho Chi Minh City
Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in southern Vietnam, is a major economic and cultural center. It boasts numerous French colonial-era buildings and historical landmarks.
Banh xeo (Vietnamese-style savory pancake) and fresh spring rolls are famous. There are also plenty of cafes, including French-style cafes and local cafes.
