“Vietnam Festa in Kanagawa 2023”

Do you know how many Vietnamese people live in Japan?
The number of foreign residents in Japan has exceeded 3 million for the first time, of which approximately 490,000 are from Vietnam (data as of the end of Reiwa 4).
In Kanagawa Prefecture, where approximately 240,000 foreigners from 176 different countries and regions live, the second largest number of foreigners by nationality are Vietnamese, with approximately 29,000 people living there (Reiwa Prefecture). (Data as of January 1, 2015).

This year, 2023, marks exactly 50 years since Japan and Vietnam established diplomatic relations (established diplomatic relations on September 21, 1973).
To seize this opportunity and promote the future development and mutual understanding of both Kanagawa Prefecture and Vietnam, "Vietnam Festa in Kanagawa", which has been going on since 2015, will be held from September 9th to September 10th.

We will prepare a number of programs where visitors can participate, interact, and fully experience the culture and charm of Vietnam, thereby deepening the exchange and bond between Kanagawa Prefecture and Vietnam for the future. We are aiming for

Speaking of Vietnam, food such as pho and fresh spring rolls, colorful lanterns, ao dai, etc...
This time, we will introduce basic information about "Vietnam" in order to enjoy "Vietnam Festa in Kanagawa 2023".

Vietnam basic information

Vietnam borders China to the south and faces the South China Sea. The country is long and narrow, stretching approximately 1,650 kilometers from the north to the south.
The capital Hanoi is located in the mountainous area in the north, Da Nang is in the center, and Ho Chi Minh City is located in the south.

Hanoi

Hanoi is the capital of Vietnam and the political, cultural, and historical center. It is a city with a history of over 1,000 years, and was once known as the ``Landing Place of the Dragon,'' and is home to many historical buildings and sites.
It is said to be the birthplace of pho, a rice noodle dish, and you can enjoy delicious dishes such as banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich).

Da Nang

Danang is Vietnam's leading beach resort. You can enjoy both the resort area with its beautiful beaches and the city center lined with old Vietnamese buildings. Fresh seafood from the South China Sea is a specialty.

Ho Chi Minh City

Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city located in the southern part of Vietnam and the economic and cultural center. Many buildings and historical landmarks from the French Colonial era remain.
It is famous for its banh xeo (Vietnamese okonomiyaki) and fresh spring rolls. There are also many cafes, including French-style cafes and local cafes.

“Vietnam Festa in Kanagawa 2023,” an event all about Vietnam that includes culture, tourism, food, and more, will be held soon.
