"The Temple of the Golden Pavilion," a masterpiece of Japanese opera based on the original work by Yukio Mishima and composed by Toshiro Mayuzumi, will be performed for the first time in 16 years!
Toshiro Mayuzumi is a composer from Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, who is also known as the first presenter of the "Untitled Concert." The opera that Mayuzumi composed based on Yukio Mishima's "The Temple of the Golden Pavilion," one of the most representative works of Japanese literature, will be performed at the Kanagawa Prefectural Hall for the first time in 16 years in Japan.
At the press conference held in August, conductor Tatsuya Shimono, director Satoshi Taoshita, and Satoshi Ichiyanagi, artistic director of the Kanagawa Arts Foundation, which is organizing the performance, were present, along with other stellar performers including Teruhiko Komori and Masami Miyamoto.
"Of all the Japanese writers, I respect Yukio Mishima the most. When I was reading the score of the opera 'The Temple of the Golden Pavilion,' I was initially perplexed as it did not match my own image of Mishima, but now I understand. I hope you will look forward to seeing how we set the Golden Pavilion on fire," Taoshita Satoshi said at the press conference. As expected, expectations are high as to how Mishima's literature will be brought to life by Mayuzumi Toshiro and the popular and talented cast including director Taoshita...
And at MAGCUL.NET, we have delved into the charms of each work under the titles "Recommendations for the Opera 'The Temple of the Golden Pavilion'" and "Who is Toshiro Mayuzumi?!", so that even those who are not normally familiar with opera, contemporary music, or even literature, can learn at least a little about the charm of the works.
