File.14 Kanagawa Prefectural Youth Center Theater Materials Room

I want to try acting too...!
Have you ever felt that urge, such as when you were moved by a wonderful performance? The Kanagawa Prefectural Youth Center Theater Resource Room is a reliable presence that supports this desire.
Established in July 2005. It was established based on theater books and materials collected by the Yokohama Theater Research Institute for more than half a century, and of course continues to collect them today.
The collection includes collections of domestic and foreign plays, drama books (mainly contemporary drama), performance scripts, theater magazines, and performance materials from Kanagawa Prefecture and all over the country.
We also found the performance script for "Theatrical Production 'Spiral Staircase'" which also appeared at Magcal Theater!
Almost all of the three major Shingeki magazines, Teatro, Shingeki, and Tragic Comedy, are in our collection. In addition to ``The Era of Lines'' and ``Quarterly High School Drama,'' it also has many magazines of various theater groups, and even non-enthusiasts can't help but groan.
Near the ceiling, there are also posters actually used in major European theaters in the 1980s. These are rare pieces, the only ones in Japan (maybe), but they are modern and fashionable, and just looking at them gets you excited.
And surprisingly, most of the library materials are open-shelf!
You can pick up most of the theater materials, including about 9,000 books and 10,000 magazines, and flip through the pages.
What's even better is that, with the exception of some rare materials, you can borrow them (up to 3 books at a time for 2 weeks; ID required).
What I would like to draw your attention to is the abundance of materials for high school and junior high school plays. Publication of amateur theater scripts is limited, so it is rare to find a place in Japan that has such a complete collection. Sometimes members of the school's drama club come together to select plays to perform, and sometimes they come from as far away as Kanazawa to look for materials.
It goes without saying that a play cannot be created with just a script and actors. Technical staff for theater, publicity, lighting and sound will also be needed.
The theater resource room is run by volunteer staff from the Kanagawa Prefectural Theater Federation, so they will be happy to answer your questions and refer you to experts if necessary.

There is a small theater space called "Studio HIKARI" right next to it, and Momijizaka Hall with 812 seats is on the first floor. Everything you need for theater is here.
I was convinced that the youth center is called a "sacred place" by many theater professionals.
