[Zushi & Hayama] Take the Keikyu Line! Lunch & Art Tour

【逗子・葉山】京急で行く!ランチ&芸術めぐり

The Keikyu Railway connects Tokyo to Haneda Airport, and then to Kawasaki, Yokohama, and the Miura Peninsula. This time, we'll take a stroll around Zushi and Hayama using the "Hayama Girls' Trip Ticket" currently on sale at Keikyu. We'll introduce some visually stunning cafe lunches and nearby art spots.

Relax and unwind on a train journey that suits your own style.

The "Hayama Girls' Trip Ticket" is a great value one-day pass that includes a round-trip ticket on the Keikyu Line, a free pass for Keihin Kyuko buses, and a "selectable meal voucher" and a "selectable reward voucher." Although it's called a "Girls' Trip Ticket," it's not limited to women; anyone can purchase and use it. Enjoy a relaxing day trip to Zushi and Hayama by train and experience a resort-like atmosphere.

Once you get off the train, I recommend using your "selectable meal voucher" to have lunch.
With a wide variety of local dishes including Japanese, Western, and Chinese cuisine, you might find yourself spoiled for choice. For example, Seedling Kitchen Zushi, located a 6-minute walk from Zushi Station, is a small cafe-restaurant that serves dishes made with plenty of local vegetables. It's known for its healthy and wholesome meals.

I was surprised by the taste and vibrant colors of the local vegetables.

The shop's landmark is this sign, which embodies the hope that it will grow and develop like a seedling. The Seeding Set, which can be ordered with the "Hayama Girls' Trip Ticket," includes a main dish, a side dish, brown rice with black rice, and vegetable salt koji soup. The popular "Hata no Wappa" (field bento box) can also be chosen as one of the main dishes.

The restaurant's popular menu item, "Hata no Wappa" (a type of bento box), is provided by Seedling Kitchen Zushi.

Owner Kanae Takahashi places great importance on the presentation of her dishes.
Takahashi believes that if customers are excited by their first encounter with the food, the meal will be more enjoyable, and if the food is delicious, it might spark their interest in the farmers who supply the ingredients, making them wonder, "Where did these vegetables come from?" or "Where are they sold?"

The vegetables used to enhance the appearance of the dishes are sourced from the Miura Peninsula and Kamakura.
We source our produce from trustworthy farmers, such as SHO Farm, which cultivates crops without pesticides or chemical fertilizers, and HOSOYA FARM, which grows a variety of colorful vegetables. We visit the morning market to see the seedlings and talk to the farmers in person.

Takahashi said, "The colorful concept of Seedling Kitchen wouldn't be possible without the vegetables from our farmers. There are young, adventurous farmers who are very flexible and willing to try growing certain vegetables if we tell them what we want to use, even if they've never grown them before. We're really grateful for their help. We want to continue to strengthen our connections with farmers."

"The word 'delicious' is the greatest reward," says Takahashi. Seeding Kitchen hopes to be a bridge connecting vegetables and people, and enjoying their dishes with both your eyes and your taste buds is sure to make for a truly special experience.

After enjoying the art-like gourmet experience

The Zushi and Hayama area boasts numerous spots where nature and art harmonize beautifully.

Located in a location overlooking Isshiki Beach, the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Modern Art, Hayama, houses a collection of over 16,000 works. After enjoying the collection exhibitions and special exhibitions, you can also spend time relaxing in the art library on the first basement floor.

At the Yamaguchi Hoshun Memorial Museum, dedicated to the Japanese painter, visitors can admire Hoshun's original paintings, sketches, and copies. The main building and studio, both registered as National Registered Tangible Cultural Properties, and the garden, which reflects the changing seasons, are also must-sees.
