Smart Illumination Yokohama 2013 Report

スマートイルミネーション横浜 2013 レポート

Nowadays, I've been craving thick knitwear, so it's the perfect season for illuminations.

"Smart Illumination Yokohama 2013" is currently being held. For five days (October 23-27), the usual Yokohama night view will be further updated by the hands of artists, citizens, and businesses. Magcal staff also went to such events that were held throughout the city. I would like to give you a brief overview of the venue.

Numen/For use debuts in Asia

First up is Numen/For use, which is appearing for the first time in Asia. A huge balloon appears at Zou-no-hana Park! Some kind of figure is emerging. Yes, you can step inside this balloon! There are net hammocks strung up inside.
Numen/For use is a Croatian-Austrian artist collective. This is your chance to experience the world-famous works of these artists, who are also involved in stage design. Magcal also interviewed them. Please also refer to this. http://magcul.net/focus/numenfor-use/

Takayuki Fujimoto + Moto Ishibashi + Daito Manabe 《Time Lapse Plant_One Ring -Energy Rescue Ship Version-》

At the tip of the elephant's trunk, where a red brick warehouse can be seen on the opposite bank, there is ``Time Lapse Plant One Ring -Energy Rescue Ship Version-'' by Takayuki Fujimoto and others. This work is also a work where you can enjoy the sound and light only when you go inside. It is said that the color of the shadow changes to three colors in the second half of the game in the 20 minutes, so I would like you to enjoy the entire game, including the differences between the first half and the second half. This is a work that incorporates many technical innovations, so please see our interview with Fujimoto for more details. http://magcul.net/focus/fujimoto/

TOCHIKA 《TRACK》 and Pika Pika stall

Below the guard is a video work by pillboxes that have been updated since last year. And there was also a Pika Pika stall. Anyone who is present can draw lines using light using the same technique used in pillboxes. Challenge yourself to see what you can draw in 5 seconds.

《Doodle of Light》 Participating company: Nakagawa Chemical

This is a graffiti corner using ``Super Luminous Tape'' by Nakagawa Chemical, a company that manufactures tapes that accumulate light, which are often used for emergencies. It seems that it can also be used for decorations for Christmas in the coming season.

Doodles drawn with LED light disappear in about 20 minutes, so you can enjoy them over and over again.

Kyota Takahashi《Hikari no Mi》《The meeting Shadow Play》

The trees in Yamashita Park and Zou-no-hana Park were filled with sparkling berries. If you look closely, you'll see that there are many different smiles drawn on it. It was a handmade fruit drawn by the workshop participants. You can also see Hikari no Mi at Marine Tower, Starbucks Yokohama Motomachi Store, NTT East Kanagawa Branch, Osanbashi Bridge, etc.

Another piece by Kyota Takahashi, ``The Meeting Shadow Play,'' is easily visible even from a distance, so even passersby can't help but stop to take a look. I also encountered a wonderful date scene where couples formed hearts and took pictures to commemorate their date. Be sure to take a commemorative photo by projecting your own shadow on the giant screen.

And Junichi Kusaka, also known as the Illuminator!

Yesterday was the opening day, so Mr. Kusaka appeared in a red and white outfit that was appropriate for the first day.

At Zou-no-hana Terrace, you can also try on Kusaka-san's illumination wear!

Lastly, be sure to check out the Smart Illumination promotional video created by MAGCUL.NET with the cooperation of Junichi Kusaka!

“Smart Illumination Yokohama” has so much to offer that I can’t list it all here. Anyway, please visit Zou-no-hana Terrace. From there, try visiting different places. You can see a night view of Yokohama that is a little different from the usual!
