Takayuki Fujimoto interview

藤本隆行インタビュー

We interviewed Takayuki Fujimoto, who will be presenting his installation work at Smart Illumination 2013.

Mr. Fujimoto is planning to exhibit 《Time Lapse Plant One Ring -Energy Rescue Ship Version-》 at Zou-no-hana Park as Takayuki Fujimoto + Moto Ishibashi + Daito Manabe .

Q1) About the work

— From the title, I can imagine that this work is a different version of “Time Lapse Plant” that was shown at the Ebisu International Film Festival, but could you please tell us about the differences from the previous work and what is unique about this work?

This work was created and exhibited at BankART NYK from the end of 2009 to the beginning of 2010, and is part of the work ``1 Ring'' that was exhibited as ``Time Lapse Plant 4 Rings/Fake Accelerator Scenic Edition'' at the 2nd Ebisu Image Festival. Version. This time, the One Ring installed at the tip of the Zou-no-hana embankment will be powered by the ship's power generation equipment, which is expected to be a power source in times of disaster and emergency. The illumination of the power supply ship itself will also be powered by the ship's power generation equipment. It's done with electricity. In addition, a new module named OneDot installed on the red brick seawall emits light in sync with Ring. OneDot is a stand-alone light that integrates a solar panel, LED, and wireless function, and uses its own functions to generate electricity during the day and emit light under wireless control from Ring.
The viewer's shadow is reflected on the floor below the Ring, but as in the previous work, these shadows perform a rotating dance independent of the viewer's will, sometimes splitting into three colored shadows and moving at different speeds. It moves. You cannot see your shadow dancing unless you actually stand on the stage under the Ring. Please go to the tip of the elephant's trunk and take another look at your own shadow.

Q2) About “Hikari”

—What does “Hikari” mean to you, Fujimoto? Please feel free to answer.

Light is the only energy that falls on this planet from outside the Earth. Oil, coal, wind, and temperature are all caused by light from the sun.
Furthermore, all living things have different wavelengths of light that they can perceive (see) due to the limitations of their own species' functions. For example, when humans receive red, green, and blue wavelengths at the same time, they feel that they are seeing white light, but this is because human eyes only have sensors that can detect red, green, and blue wavelengths. In other words, you cannot feel other wavelengths. When the brain receives stimulation from all three wavelengths at the same time, it sees white. In other words, humans can only sense a small portion of the bundle of wavelengths called light, and the brain receives and analyzes this stimulus to create colors within the brain. This means that different body sensors and brains see different light. In fact, species that can be said to be direct descendants of dinosaurs, such as fish, amphibians, reptiles, and birds, have four color sensors (cones) in their eyes, allowing them to see things differently than humans. In other words, light is a phenomenon that has a much wider range than we perceive, and we can only understand a small part of it.

Q3) For customers visiting the venue

At Smart Illumination, many people come from all over the country to see the night view of Yokohama. There are also many local people who come to watch the show on their way home from work. I would like to say a few words to the customers who will be attending on the day.

The tip of the elephant's trunk can be seen from many places, but it is a little far away to actually reach it. However, if you go that far, you will be able to see some interesting sights, so please make sure to stretch your legs a little.
