GALERIE PARIS
This is the third time we are introducing a gallery that holds various exhibitions on Yokohama's Japan Boulevard. GALERIE PARIS moved and opened in 2000 in a renovated historic building in Yokohama. In contrast to the stately feel of the building, the moment you step inside you are greeted by a bright and spacious space.
While adhering to the pure white, square "white cube" design that is the most popular type of exhibition space for contemporary art, it also features large windows that let in natural light and high ceilings that prioritize "volume over square footage."
The rows of ginkgo trees peeking through the windows are also part of the space. It was still hot when we visited, so the ginkgo leaves were still green, but you can also enjoy the autumn colors and the fluttering leaves that fall add a seasonal feel to the simple gallery. Immerse yourself in the world of the artworks, and sometimes enjoy chatting with the artists. It's a cozy gallery that invites visitors into an extraordinary world.
Next to the gallery is a boutique, with a different atmosphere from the white cube-style gallery. Here, works by artists from Japan and around the world who have a connection to "GALERIE PARIS" are exhibited and sold.
"Because the building has a long history, even if we put old items such as antique dolls in it, it fits in well with the space," says the owner, Mr. Morita. Accessories, clothes, paintings, objects, and even antique dolls are on display, pleasing the eyes of visitors. If you visit the gallery, be sure to also take a look at this boutique next door!
