Special Exhibition "Kobo Abe - The Core of 21st Century Literature"
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Abe Kobo (1924-1993).
His creative endeavors ranged from poetry in his student days to novels such as "The Wall" and "Woman in the Dunes," plays such as "Tomodachi," photography, and the pursuit of comprehensive art with the theater group Abe Kobo Studio. His unique works, which depict the self being shaken by the loss of what should be self-evident names, bodies, and places, and a world in which conventional norms are suddenly overturned, continue to gain many readers across borders. With around 500 items, some of which are on public display or exhibited for the first time, this exhibition offers a comprehensive look at Abe Kobo, an artist who continued to capture the cutting edge of his time, and questions the meaning of the themes of his works in the 21st century.
