Supporting young artists in Yokohama's art hub, Kogane-cho
Under-the-railway Studio Site-A Gallery

While appreciating the artworks, you can hear the sound of trains periodically running, which is somehow exciting and interesting. This place is known for its "architecture that makes use of the space under the elevated railway" between Keikyu Koganecho Station and Hinodecho Station, and is aptly named "Elevated Underground Studio Site-A Gallery." It opened at the same time as the Koganecho Bazaar in 2011. It is a contemporary art gallery run by the NPO Koganecho Area Management Center, and invites and introduces young artists who are active in various genres.

This is the entrance. Opposite it is the main exhibition room, Venue 1.

At the time of our interview, the Nokisaki Art Fair, an art and food event held on the second Sunday of every month, was being held! Various contemporary art works by young artists were lined up, and after the interview, we had the place to ourselves to enjoy them.

I heard that this gallery is under an elevated railway line where trains pass by, so there are some restrictions. Please see here.

It is not possible to display artwork directly on the exposed concrete pillars. This is why there is a gap of several centimeters between the artwork and the wall. The space is only possible because of the pillars. They need to be firmly supported! It's interesting to take a look at these kinds of details while admiring the artwork.

Now, let's move on to the other exhibition room, Venue 2.

This space is much smaller than the main exhibition room, but its appeal is that it allows works to be displayed in a solo exhibition-like atmosphere. The unique worldview of the artist can be strongly expressed.

In front of this exhibition room, there is a museum shop-like goods sales corner, and flyers for art events held in Yokohama are also displayed. Depending on the exhibition, it is possible to use this space for exhibitions.

Located in Kogane-cho, Yokohama's new art hub, this stylish gallery continues to present art with a fresh sensibility. There are also public art pieces and artists' studios in the vicinity, so why not drop in while enjoying a stroll?
