An apartment where foreigners once lived has been turned into a gallery!

Enter an artistic space!
YOKOHAMA ART SPOT FILE

A small gallery in Yokohama Chinatown
AAA GALLERY

AAA GALLERY is located between Yokohama Chinatown, which is bustling with tourists, and Yamashita Park, which overlooks the sea.

Climb the stairs to the second floor of the building.

This is the entrance to the gallery.

When you open the door, the inside is divided into three rooms, just like someone's home. This is because this is an apartment for foreigners that was built shortly after the war, and the layout and interior are almost exactly the same as they were back then.

Can you see that there is the first exhibition room as soon as you enter, and then two more exhibition rooms at the back? On the day I visited, three exhibitions by different artists were being held in each of the three rooms.

This is the exhibition room at the back right where the artist happened to be present that day.

This is an exhibition scene from Maruyama Hitomi's solo exhibition "Inside the Eyes."

"All the walls of the rooms are white. The charm of this gallery is that it can be transformed into various spaces depending on the image of the artist's work and the concept of the exhibition. It's great that the artist can produce the entire room themselves, even coming up with the decorations other than the works. The room itself is a canvas and becomes your own work of art!" explains Maruyama Hitomi, an artist whose work was introduced above.

One of the charms of this gallery is that you can just drop in like this and chat with the artists in attendance in a homely atmosphere while looking at their works.

By the way, I heard there's one more thing unique about this gallery!

Depending on the artist's wishes and the exhibition concept, even the toilet can be turned into an exhibition space!! (On the day of the interview, it was just a normal toilet! Lol)

If the artist wishes, it is also possible to set up a merchandise corner.

Also, depending on the artist, original menus such as cafes and sweets may be sold to match the works on display.

When we visited for our interview, they also had Maruyama's "Maru-chan's Special Watermelon-Flavored Shaved Ice," which we mentioned earlier! In addition, a "My Beloved Panties Exhibition" featuring eight artists was being held in a room by the entrance, and a menu for something related to this, "That Girl's ♡ Panties Cake," was also posted up.

In addition, customers can also use the outdoor terrace seating, which is a shared space in the building.

It's the season for pleasant breezes. It would be nice to take a break here after viewing the artworks!
