Kawasaki City Museum "The World is Hunted and Taken"

…Everyone in Kanagawa Prefecture. Did you know?
As Disneyland and other towers reach auspicious milestones, the star of Kawasaki, Kawasaki City Museum, also celebrates its 25th anniversary!
(Even more exciting, she is the same age as me.)
To celebrate this auspicious 25th anniversary, Kawasaki City Museum is planning three exhibitions on "Contemporary Art," "Manga," and "The Urban Development of Kawasaki."
(Please check out the details on this page! ☞ http://www.kawasaki-museum.jp/25museum/ )
I would like to tell you about all three exhibitions in this report, but I would like you to go and see the other two, including the one I will introduce this time, for yourself...
Today, from the "Contemporary Art" genre,
New Generation Artist Exhibition in Kawasaki "The World is Hunted and Taken"
I would like to deliver the following…
The venue for "The World is Hunted and Taken" is the second floor of the Kawasaki City Museum, Special Exhibition Room 1. The theme of the exhibition is "Let's think about communication once again in the chaotic communication situation created by technology and media."
At the venue, there is a taxi suddenly placed there, an empty shell wearing a gas mask is hanging, and even cute pictures of cats are on display...there are a variety of works that tackle the theme.
So, despite his busy schedule, curator Fukagawa gave us a more detailed tour of the entire exhibition.
I had the opportunity to walk around listening to explanations about each piece and found them all very interesting, but today I would like to introduce to you a few carefully selected pieces that particularly caught my eye out of the many works on display.
"Cats Walk, We Meet" by Go Fujimura & Sayaka Uchino
The work began by inviting elementary school students in Kawasaki City to send in letters with information about cats they had seen around town. Based on the letters received, the work unfolds in various ways.
However, what surprised me most was the mountain of letters that were sent to me by elementary school students.
The total number is about 8,000!
The letters have been compiled into a book and are available to read, so be sure to check it out...
By the way, the letters included pictures of the cats that everyone had seen...and wow, even just a quick glance showed that the elementary school students were quite talented artists.
In addition, the letters are distributed according to the writers' specifications, and in addition to a section for drawing the cat you have seen, there is also a section for drawing a map of where you saw the cat.
Once again, everyone showed their individuality in this map section.
The depiction of the road is wonderful.
Many other paintings by the artist are included in these several booklets.
In addition to the booklet, the exhibition also includes workshop footage and giant cat paintings, so please enjoy those as well.
…Continued.
"Let's entrust our machines to the future" - Tsuyoshi Anzai
This work was born from a workshop with the theme, "Let's make a mysterious machine using everyday items and create a video to introduce it!" The mysterious machine in the photo is apparently "a machine that helps cats and mice make up."
There is also a HOW TO video on how to use the machine.
In fact, this work has extended beyond the exhibition venue and is even on display within the museum's permanent exhibition space.
Therefore, to accompany the permanent exhibits (primitive, ancient, medieval, etc.), we even produced videos that show how people from the past would have interpreted this machine.
The work continues to develop.
~bonus~
At "The World is Hunted and Taken," there is a regular event called "Question, One Battle" where the creators answer questions from the audience.
If you put your question in the suggestion box at the entrance, a written reply will be posted at a later date.
For example, the question is like this:
… Th-That’s right!
Even if your question seems unrelated to the exhibited works at first glance, don't worry, as this is a "contemporary art" exhibition.
The authors are also very accommodating and willing to answer all your questions!
This might be a good opportunity to clear up any confusion you may have about what art is...
What exactly is so great about Picasso? Don't forget to check this out too.
Please come and see "The World is in the Hunt, Take"!
