Making Yokohama an art city, producing art through ophthalmology

The owner of this gallery is a doctor! Hideharu Fukasaku, the director of Fukasaku Eye Clinic, who is also an artist, opened the gallery in March 2012 with the desire to "enjoy the joy and excitement of seeing through art, which is also nourishment for the eyes and the mind, when patients are able to see after undergoing eye treatment." The gallery is large and spacious, with a floor area of 160 square meters and a ceiling height of 3.4 meters.

(The "Picture Book Exhibition" was held at the FEI ART MUSEUM YOKOHAMA during the interview.)

It is also possible to hang works from the ceiling like this.

The gallery is also equipped with movable walls and the ability to play music, making it a popular space for artists to present their work in a variety of ways.

At the time of our visit, a Picture Book Exhibition was being held, and in the central space just inside the entrance, merchandise such as picture books and postcards by artists were being sold.

The area to the right of the entrance is usually the museum shop space (at the time of the visit, works by artists featured in the special exhibition were on display). Works by artists other than those featured in the special exhibition are also on sale, so be sure to check it out!

"FEI ART MUSEUM YOKOHAMA" hosts various exhibitions and workshops such as painting exhibitions, calligraphy exhibitions, sculpture exhibitions by young artists, and picture book exhibitions. If you are visiting Yokohama, be sure to drop by.
