The long-awaited “Hisashi Eguchi Exhibition KING OF POP” opens in the Tokyo metropolitan area!

Hisashi Eguchi is known as a manga artist and illustrator. In 2015, he is actively working to compile his 38 years of art since his debut, publishing ``KING OF POP Hisashi Eguchi Complete Illustration Collection'' that compiles all of his illustrations to date, and holding numerous solo exhibitions. Mr. Eguchi's large-scale solo exhibition in the Tokyo metropolitan area, ``Hisashi Eguchi Exhibition KING OF POP,'' opened on December 5th (Saturday) at the Kawasaki City Museum, and many related parties and reporters attended the opening ceremony held the day before. A group has gathered.

In his speech at the ceremony, Mr. Eguchi talked about the ``38th anniversary,'' which seemed like a somewhat unreliable number of years, and said, ``Normally, we do it on the 40th or 50th anniversary, something like this. But when I say halfway, I mean... It's an exclusive patent, so I guess that's what it looks like (lol).'' He commented with a smile on his face, adding that the aforementioned active movement this year also has the meaning of a final settlement of his past painting career ahead of next year's 60th birthday. He told me about it.

``Hisashi Eguchi Exhibition KING OF POP'' opened with the teacher's grateful words, ``I want to continue drawing as much as my physical strength allows.'' I'll start reporting on the situation at the venue. (Tickets will be given away at the end of the article!)

Is Mr. Eguchi the model for the pose? !

As soon as you step into the venue, you will be greeted by a row of dazzlingly colorful works. The illustrations near the entrance, from recent ones such as an advertisement for the soft drink MATCH in which Suzu Hirose looks exactly like her, to nostalgic 90's Denny's menus, immediately give you a sense of the timeless appeal that resonates with a wide range of generations. In particular, the 90's fashion on Denny's menu is so cute that even post-olive girls can't miss it!

The most eye-catching design is 2 COW GIRLS, which is also used in the flyer image. This is the same composition as American pop artist Andy Warhol's silkscreen drawing of Elvis Presley, but he actually drew it by posing himself in front of a mirror. She revealed in front of the reporters that she was the model.

“Hibari-kun” doll will be released soon! !

Although the series ended unfinished, a complete version was released in 2010 for the first time in 27 years, and from the 1980s masterpiece "Stop!! Hibari-kun!", which became a hot topic, there will be exhibitions of not only original drawings but also figures. Also fulfilling. This is the ``white crocodile'' that often appeared in Professor Eguchi's works because he had a hallucination of a white crocodile in a pure white manuscript when he was troubled by the conflict of not being able to complete a perfect manuscript by the deadline!

Also, the "Hibari-kun" doll, which is scheduled to be released in 2016, was also seen early!
As you know, Hibari-kun is a high school boy who is cuter than girls. Am I the only one who cares about what's inside the clothes when it comes to dolls?

How to draw a woman's nose changes with the times

In this exhibition, we must not forget the real pleasure of taking a comprehensive look at the changes in Mr. Eguchi's painting style. Early manga work “Susume! Of course there are obvious changes from "Pirates", but I also want to pay attention to the changes in the way women's noses are drawn, which are subtle but have a big impact on impressions. Mr. Eguchi overturned the common sense in the manga world at the time, where drawing nostrils tended to be a symbol of ugly, and was the first to popularize the art of ``girls who are cute even if they draw nostrils.'' . Please also take a look at the ``nose'' drawn with minimalist lines that were achieved through trial and error.

In addition, there are other items on display that fans are coveting, such as the familiar PANTONE color specifications and original drawings with handwritten instructions, which can only be seen on this occasion and are a must-see.
