56th Venice Biennale Report
What is the Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition?
An event that can be said to be the origin of international art exhibitions that began in Venice, Italy in 1895. Each time, "Golden Lion Award", "Silver Lion Award" and "Special Award" are selected from participating countries and participating artists. "Biennale" means "once in two years" in Italian, and is held every other year. Although it is an international exhibition with a history of more than 100 years, it is still attracting the attention of the world's art world as a place where you can get a bird's eye view of the latest trends in contemporary art, and as one of the few international exhibitions that adopts a country-specific participation system. ing
The main venues are Giardini, the largest park in the city of Venice, and Arsenale, the national shipyard. By the way, the pavilion of the Japan Pavilion is located in the Giardini Park, and was completed in 1956 with the help of donations from Shojiro Ishibashi, the founder of Bridgestone Tire (now Bridgestone). Since then, as of 2015, 76 artists have exhibited.
