"Smart Illumination Yokohama 2014" Report
As the event approaches, the city is decorated with glittering illuminations, transforming it into a place where you can enjoy an extraordinary experience, making you want to go out with friends, a partner, family, or even by yourself. This smart illumination, which started as a night view development project for Zou-no-hana Terrace, is not just a way to enjoy the visual and extraordinary, but also an art event where you can learn about the passion and philosophy of artists, companies, students, and other artists of all kinds.
There are so many exhibits that it's easy to miss everything, so I'd like to introduce three of them.
First, let us introduce you to the "Moving Projection Theater: Building Play" by Takahashi Kyota and Shiba Yukio , a particularly eye-catching piece located near Zou-no-hana Terrace.
This work uses a moving projector to project a face onto a building, giving the building, which normally has no sense of personality, a personality and making it begin to communicate.
The projected faces appeared slightly three-dimensional, making the unique expressions feel even more realistic and adding to the excitement of the story.
In addition, the moving projector was powered by an electric car battery, demonstrating that this was not just an art event but also an exhibition of environmental technology.

Next, I would like to introduce "Chibibi" by Toru Oyamada .
This is a participatory installation that involves the most primitive act for humans: lighting a fire and gathering around it.
You can of course sit in groups, and there is also shared seating, so you might even meet people of all ages and genders...!
Feeling the warmth of the nostalgic small fire, we spent some time chatting and sipping chai and soup from CAFE Ryusenkei , a mobile cafe based in Hakone and located in the same space. It was a very fond memory.
Looking around, I saw people having deep conversations, people enjoying adding firewood, people sketching the flames...everyone was enjoying themselves in different ways.

There are other artworks at Pacifico Yokohama, but it's a little far away, so we recommend taking the shuttle ship ( Jin Shiyeon 's work " Shuttle Ship FLOW ") that runs between Pukari Pier and Pier Zou-no-hana and enjoying a leisurely ride while taking in the night view of Minato Mirai.
The windows of the boat were covered with LED tubes, so we were able to take photos like this one.

During these five days, I thought it would be a good idea to take my camera with me and take my time to record what I see on the road, experiencing a different side of Yokohama than usual.
This is not just a "look and see" type of art event; there will be participatory installations, workshops, events, a delicious mobile cafe, and more, so it's too many to mention here, and you'll get "something" - both tangible and intangible - so when you leave, you might feel like you've gained "something" different from before.
